Storm Alex: The Monaco Red Cross supports the disaster-stricken Vésubie and Roya valleys

Published on 20.10.2020

Monaco, 19/10/2020 – After Storm Alex hit several neighbouring valleys, a tremendous surge of generosity and solidarity has meant that many of the victims have received support.

As soon as the disaster was announced, individuals and businesses in Monaco responded to the appeal launched by the Monaco Red Cross to provide financial support to the neighbouring communities so badly hit by the storm. To date the funds raised amount to over 75,000 €.

On the initiative of its President, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Monaco Red Cross decided to release 10,000 € in addition to the donations received, to support the disaster-stricken Vésubie and Roya valleys.

The Government of Monaco, with the support of the Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco, made amenities available at the marine terminal. This collection centre has enabled the Monaco Red Cross to group together and sort essential supplies (personal care items, non-perishable food items…)

Thanks to this act of generosity, over 8 pallets left the collection centre on the dyke for the intermediate collection centre in Menton where they were then transported by helicopter to Breil-sur-Roya to be distributed to the victims. A further 6 pallets are currently being prepared and will be delivered shortly.

Due to the massive influx of donations for the victims from all over France, the collection centre on the dyke will close on Tuesday 20th October at 7 p.m.

The Monaco Red Cross would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all donors and businesses for their generosity and support, as well as the Monaco-based Héli Air, Monaco Logistique and DAU (Office of Urban Planning) for their logistic involvement.

With the situation developing as the days go by, the Monaco Red Cross will keep you updated on its activities on a regular basis and recommends that you follow the latest news on its website www.croix-rouge.mc and on the social networks FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone.
