Project to protect vulnerable children in Côte d’Ivoire

Centre Rainier III

The Monaco Red Cross’s voluntary worker section at the Centre Rainier III began its activities in 2013 and is currently made up of 11 people (2020).

To offer patients the best approach, visits take place every weekday and sometimes on Sundays. The visits are made in pairs or trios, always on the same floors for better familiarity and/or recognition.

Every 3 months a meeting with the hospital’s psychologist is organised with a view to sharing the workers’ feedback with regard to their experiences among the patients.  These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss any difficulties encountered, to be informed of any new arrivals but also to meet other voluntary workers and to unite the teams.

The main goal of the section is to support and listen to patients. This means taking part in the outings planned by the activities team, organising recreational events as well as handing out magazines on a regular basis.

Lastly, we also offer patients our support by taking care of their personal belongings and we are continually attentive to their needs.

Most of our activities run from one year to the next. Consequently, our aim is to maintain all our standard activities in addition to setting up a craft workshop for the patients, featuring knitting and tapestry.
