The Monaco Red Cross

The Monaco Red Cross was created on 3 March 1948 by Prince Louis II. The same year, it was recognised by the International Committe of the Red Cross and admitted to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The Monaco Red Cross National Society respects the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The Monaco Red Cross is presided by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. He is assisted by a 17 member Board of Directors nominated for 3 years by Sovereign Ordinance.

Between two meetings of the Board of Directors, a more restricted body, the Executive Committee, oversees the safe operation of the Society. Apart from the President, it includes the Vice-President, H.S.H. Princess Charlene, The General Secretary, Mr. Frédéric PLATINI, the General Treasurer, Mrs. Bettina RAGAZZONI.

Once a year, the General Assembly, the decision-making body, convenes the members of the Board of Directors, the Heads of all sections and services, and the delegate members representing all the volunteers (one representative per 15 volunteer members).

In 2021 the CRM’s Articles of Association (AoA) were amended in order to comply with Monegasque law and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s mandatory regulatory provisions. This update has enabled CRM to upgrade and align its AoA with national and international standards.    The Monaco Red Cross’s new Articles of Association were approved at the General Assembly on 23rd March 2021 and published in the Journal de Monaco on 20th July 2021.

Following the amendment of the AoA and pursuant to Article 17 of the CRM’s AoA, the Code of Conduct endorsed by the Board of Directors on 30th March 2022 during the General Assembly entered into force on this date, replacing and superseding the Charter of the Volunteer.
