Project to protect vulnerable children in Côte d’Ivoire

Published on 23.11.2023

21/11/2023: The Monaco Red Cross, in cooperation with the Côte d’Ivoire Red Cross, has been implementing a project to protect over 500 children in vulnerable situations, 85% of whom are young girls. This project is being implemented in Daloa, to the north-west of the capital, Abidjan.

The project supports young mums so that they are able to increase their income and provide for their families. Dynamic protection committees have been set up within the villages. The project also focuses on promoting access to education and the socio-economic empowerment of vulnerable young girls.

500 young girls are beneficiaries including Natacha, 21, 2 children, who benefitted from vocational training, business management assistance, and a setting-up package. Now self-employed as a hairdresser, she is financially independent.

The Monaco Red Cross and Côte d’Ivoire Red Cross  have also set up 6 school canteens accommodating 2,888 primary school children in 6 villages, thanks to this project.

Phase 2 of the project will begin in January 2024 and continue until December 2027. It foresees the continuation of these actions with the aim of empowering beneficiaries.
