Grand Prix 2021: the Red Cross comes up trumps!

Published on 04.06.2021

May 2021 was marked by the resumption of several events in the Principality, including the three Grand Prix motor races (Historic Grand Prix, E-Prix and Formula 1 Grand Prix).

Like every year, the arrangements implemented by the Monaco Red Cross ensure the safety of the spectators and all the players involved alongside the drivers (representatives from the Monaco Automobile Club, mechanics, journalists, stewards…).

This year, only the stands were occupied by spectators for one third of their total capacity. Despite this reduced edition, 160 volunteer rescue workers and nurses, 60 of whom came from Italy, France, Switzerland and Germany (compared to 230 during pre-Covid-19 periods) were mobilised on the Sunday of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Eleven Red Cross ambulances and three Fire Brigade ambulances were also ready to intervene around the circuit.

This event, highly anticipated by our colleagues travelling from afar, is a genuine opportunity to share and enjoy some fun time around the circuit located in the heart of the city. International volunteers are all accommodated at the Centre Méditerranéen d’Etudes Françaises during the event which promotes interaction between delegations.

Tight cooperation between the Red Cross, the Monaco Automobile Club, the Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG), the Prince’s Carabinieri Unit, the Monaco Fire Brigade and the Public Safety Department ensured appropriate safety services during the various races of this rather special 2021 edition. In total, over the 8 days of mobilisation, first aid treatment was administered to 62 people and 5 had to be evacuated to the CHPG.
