Monaco Red Cross and Ukraine

Monaco Red Cross and Ukraine

Prince Albert II, the President of the Monaco Red Cross has reaffirmed his support for the Ukrainian relief movement.

All actions relating to the people affected by this conflict fall under the Monaco Red Cross’ international humanitarian section which is dedicated to international action. This team organises emergency humanitarian assistance and emergency aid, including responding to appeals for financial aid launched by its Federation (IFRC) , the ICRC or other national Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies. The IFRC provides humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence across the world.

The Monaco Red Cross reacted quickly to the situation and took a focused approach  which allowed for an efficient use of resources both locally and internationally.

Fundraising by the Monaco Red Cross for the Ukrainian relief movement

The Monaco Red Cross is financially supporting the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to further contribute to the Ukrainian relief movement.

Following its appeal for donations, the Monaco Red Cross has successfully raised an amount which represents approximately 40 euros per inhabitant.

“Everyone feels concerned by this war, which is taking place only 1,500 km from our homes on the European continent,” Frederic Platini, General Secretary of the Monaco Red Cross   said. “There is a great outpouring of solidarity.”

Of these funds raised, 600,000 € is allocated to the ICRC for emergency relief assistance, which includes the provision of first aid and other health services to Ukraine’s wounded and sick. More specifically, this helps with emergency aid operations, repairs to critical infrastructure, and supplies of drugs and equipment to healthcare facilities while offering support for families with food, water, and hygiene products.

350,000 € has been allocated to the IFRC to help refugees from conflicts in the region, providing support to those most at risk, including unaccompanied minors, single-parent families and the elderly and disabled.

An increasing number of voices have emerged in the principality to demonstrate their support.  Over the next few months, all the Principality’s cultural institutions are joining forces and mobilising through various actions in support of the Ukrainian artistic world. All proceeds from their programming over the next few months will be donated to the Monaco Red Cross.

Support for people affected by the conflict in Ukraine and currently in Monaco

In Monaco, the Red Cross is supporting the effort to welcome and support people affected by this conflict. The Monaco Red Cross also participated in the reunification of a number of families.

“We were contacted by Monegasque Ukrainian residents to help family members or friends who were either in Poland or in Moldova,” said Mr Platini. “People who were able to flee the fighting and who needed help to join members of their families all over Europe.”

A number of measures have been taken in Monaco to support the people affected by the conflict, that include collaboration between the Monaco Red Cross and the Government of Monaco. These include:

  • Administrative aid, including support with registering with Monaco Police Department (call +377 93 15 31 60 or email dsp.ukraine@gouv.mc for more information ), applications for financial aid from the the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services ( call +377 98 98 41 00 or email daso@gouv.mc for more information) and applications for schooling of refugee children (email dint-ukraine@gouv.mc for more information)
